Verbs with D-classifier

More verbs: ni#D+ush~deł 'dance'

The verb ni#D+ush has several interesting properties.

  1. It has a ni-prefix in the disjunct zone. This means that the Glottal Stop Insertion Rule applies.
  2. The verb stem ush does not begin with a glottal, but with the vowel u. Therefore, the D-classifier and the verb stem merge into one syllable, dush.
  3. This verb has two verb stems. One of them is used for singular subjects, and one of them for plural subjects. For a speaker of English, this does not make much sense: why use a different word for a single activity as opposed to a group activity? From the Dena'ina point of view though, there is a difference between just one person dancing and a bunch of people dancing all together. This is just something you have to remember about this verb.
  4. Note that the stem deł does not take the D-classifier, but the Ø-classifier.

1st Sg. ni'eshdush I dance no audio
2nd Sg. nindush you (sg.) dance no audio
3rd Sg. nidush s/he dances no audio
From here on, the other verb stem is used. Remember that it takes the Ø-classifier!
1st Pl. nich'deł we dance no audio
2nd Pl. ni'ehdeł you (pl.) dance no audio
3rd Pl. niqedeł they dance no audio
